And some more from Declan's files:
Joseph
Matthews maintained a shop to the early 1970's. See the transition from
"Market Square" (in 1922) to "O'Connell Square" (in 1931).
This was the garage of Charles Conrad Williams who ran a
successful Motor Garage business for many years. Williams himself was deaf and dumb
having been afflicted at an early age. His family had been merchants in
Edenderry for over 150 years.
Ryans
Pharmacy now occupies the former "Dowling's Pharmacy" and later that
of Liam Burke. Note the advertising emphasis on animal and poultry
medicines.
Edenderry
was associated with machine made footwear since 1935 but in earlier times a lot
of footwear was made to order. Patrick McGuinness had been a medal prize winner
for his footwear.
