Sporting Edenderry

On October 27th at 8pm in the Parish Centre, Edenderry Historical Society will host a lecture,  'Sporting Edenderry: A history of sport in the town 1800-2000' by Dr. Ciaran Reilly.

This talk will be a fundraising event for the society, so we encourage everyone to come along and to share this event with anyone you think may be interested.

Feel free to nominate your favourite sporting memory or local sportstar in the comment in advance. What do you remember as a sporting highlight over the years?

The talk will highlight some of the lesser known aspects of sporting history in Edenderry. For example, which Edenderry Club celebrates its 55th birthday next month? Who was the Edenderry cyclist who made headlines in 1898 when he cycled 180 miles in 12 hours to be crowned Irish champion? Who was the Edenderry rugby player capped four times for Ireland in the 1920s? Just what were the Edenderry hurlers at in Nenagh in 1906 when they played the game on bicycles? Coming Soon: Edenderry Audio Guide & Heritage Trail

There will be an exciting development for the town of Edenderry in the coming weeks with the launch of the Edenderry Audio Guide & Heritage Trail. Designed by Abarta Heritage (see ), the Audio Guide is a joint venture between the Edenderry Historical Society, Edenderry Tidy Towns and Edenderry Lions Club. The project has also received funding from the Heritage Council. Through fourteen audio tracks you will be guided through the town of Edenderry reliving the history behind many of the buildings and important moments in the towns history. In addition, new historical information plaques with QR codes will bring more information to the reader. Watch this space!
